Captain Kira’s lookalike, Iliana Ghemor, dreams of fulfilling a prophecy that will mark her as the one true Emissary of the mirror universe—a messianic figure who will lead her followers into a war that could trigger the cleansing of countless alternate Kiras in countless parallel realities. But the stakes are higher than anyone imagines, for the pull of destiny tugs at other souls who are swept into the vortex of the Prophets, remote and timeless beings who have set these events in motion. Yet the outcome of this struggle for the fate of one universe will ripple across many others, giving shape to a future that will prove to be greatest trial yet for the heroes of station Deep Space 9.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Soul Key (Star Trek Deep Space Nine (Unnumbered Paperback))

There is a void in the alternate universe that demands to be filled. Iliana Ghemor, the Cardassian operative who years ago was altered in both body and mind to replace Kira Nerys, dreams of fulfilling a prophecy that will mark her as the one true Emissary of that other reality -- a messianic figure who could lead her followers into an era of renewed hope...or an age of deepening darkness.
Ghemor's claim to the mantle of the Emissary is by no means certain, however, as the inexorable pull of providence tugs also at other souls who are swept into the vortex of the Prophets, the remote and timeless beings who have set these strange events in motion.
But the stakes are higher than anyone imagines: for the outcome of this struggle for the fate of one universe will ripple across many others, and become the key to unlocking a future that will prove to be the greatest trial yet for the heroes of station Deep Space 9.

Earth Hour 2011: It's time to go beyond the hour

InterContinental Hotels Group in Jordan – InterContinental Jordan, InterContinental Aqaba Resort, Crowne Plaza Amman, Crowne Plaza Petra Resort, Holiday Inn Amman and Holiday Inn Resort Dead Sea - will join the worldwide movement of people and businesses planning to turn off the lights for Earth Hour 2011 in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common – our planet.

Hundreds of hotels in InterContinental Hotels Group portfolio will take part in Earth Hour, our global environmental commitment is to send a powerful global message about the importance of environmental sustainability and caring for the planet.
Our commitment to the environment is certainly not limited to this events. In fact, we are embarking on a global, online environmental programme that will help our hotels reduce wastage and energy use. Called Green Engage, this software programme will help our hotels manage their energy consumption more effectively. The system automatically compares hotels of a similar nature around the world and lists a series of actions that each hotel can take to reduce waste, and energy and water consumption. Early trials have shown potential energy savings of up to 25%. And although Green Engage was essentially designed based on current best practices, it is particularly relevant because it also takes into consideration the feedback we have received from guests regarding the types of green technologies they feel are most important.

London- Memorial to the women who served in World War II

London- Memorial to the women who served in World War II

The largest bronze sculpture placed in the City of London - Whitehall,
The Memorial to the Women of World War II is the result of an open competition. It was won by John W. Mills. The brief asked for a monument to all the women of World War II, not individuals. John W. Mills’ winning design from an entry of 12 sprang from his own memories of the war and his mother’ s work in munitions.
It depicts the contribution of all women to the war effort through their clothing symbolically left hanging on pegs after they had returned home at the end of hostilities with their job well done.

The judges for the memorial competition were: Professor Phillip King, president of the Royal Academy of Arts (1999-2004), Dr Judith Collins, former head of modern sculpture at the Tate, and James Butler, the eminent sculptor.

Another of his works in the same genre as the Memorial to the Women of World War II is Blitz, the National Fire-fighters Memorial outside St Paul’s Cathedral. Among many other sculptures from his studios have also come The Memorial to William Blake at William Blake House in London, a magnificent 12ft-high bronze, St George, at Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans, and a statue of Jackie Milburn, the Newcastle footballer at Ashington, Northumberland. After many machinations that germ of a dream came to fruition as The National Firefighters Memorial ' BLITZ '.

On 9 July 2005 Her Majesty The Queen unveiled The Memorial to the Women of World War Two. The bronze sculpture stands next to The Cenotaph in Whitehall one of the most important ceremonial routes in the nation. The Memorial is a permanent tribute to the contribution made by more than seven million women during 1939 – 45 and it took seven years of campaigning for a hope to become reality. Significantly, almost every family in Britain knows a woman this memorial represents.

DSC04132 Lanesborough House Hotel - Hyde Park Corner

DSC04132 Lanesborough House Hotel - Hyde Park Corner

n 1716 Henry Hoare, William Wogan, Robert Witham and Patrick Cockburn decided to open the Westminster Public Infirmary in Petty France, London in 1720, and quickly relocated to larger premises in Chapel Street in 1724. By 1732 the Governors were forced to seek an even larger building. The majority of the Governors favoured a house in Castle Lane but a minority preferred Lanesborough House.[1][2]
The original site was in Lanesborough House at Hyde Park Corner, originally built in 1719 by the James Lane, 2nd Viscount Lanesborough[3][4], in what was then open countryside. The new St George's Hospital was arranged on three floors and accommodated 30 patients in two wards: one for men and one for women. The hospital was gradually extended and, by 1744, it had fifteen wards and over 250 patients.[5]
By the 1800s, the hospital was slipping into disrepair. The old Lanesborough House at Hyde Park Corner (now the location of The Lanesborough hotel) was demolished to make way for a new 350 bed new facility. Building began in 1827 designed by architect William Wilkins and the new hospital was completed by 1844.
Among those who have been associated with St George's are:
Henry Gray, anatomist
Harry Hill, stand-up comedian and TV funny man
John Hunter, father of modern surgery
Edward Jenner, introduced vaccination for smallpox
Judah Hirsch Quastel, biochemist
Thomas Spencer Wells, pioneer in abdominal surgery
Thomas Young, physician, mathematician and hieroglyphicologist

Milford House Hotel, Milford-on-Sea, Hampshire

Milford House Hotel, Milford-on-Sea, Hampshire

Postally unused.

Milford House is a splendid Georgian house in red brick. The central part is the oldest, with castellated parapet being built in about 1730 for William Rickman. He died in 1764 and William Reynolds became the new owner of the Manor, purchasing more land around the house to make a 14 acre park. He altered the main road so he had continuous views of the Solent and the Isle of Wight. In the 1780's, Edmund Reynolds, son of William, enlarged the house with Adam style wings. The Reynolds left for their Jamaica sugar plantation in the 1820's. Milford House was next occupied by tenants while being owned by Mrs. Whitby of Newlands. Mrs. West (Mrs. Whitby's daughter) inherited it in 1850 and tried unsuccessfully to auction it in 1863, but in 1867 it was purchased by William Talbot Agar who lived there until his death in 1906. Edward Agar resided in Milford House until he died in 1927 and it was sold and became a Hotel but in 1972 it was closed. Several blocks of flats were built on the gardens and the House was also converted into apartments.

The Grade II listings says:
"Original house said to date from 1680 and to have been remodelled by the Adams brothers in the late C18. Consists of a centre part and 2 flanking wings. The centre, and oldest, section of red brick with string course and cornice of Roman cement. Castellated parapet. Tiled roof. 2 storeys, 5 barred sash windows. Doorway with flat canopy. Flanking wings of early Cl9. Red brick and grey headers, once painted. Curved facades and 2 storeys but higher elevation than central section. 3 barred sashes each. Inside, spiral staircase. (N.M.R.). All Saints Church Old Walls, and the Milford House Hotel and Orchard Cottage Greenbanks Close, form a group"

THE FORMER TORBAY HOTEL. TERRACE RD. BOURNEMOUTH. DORSET. 1995

THE FORMER TORBAY HOTEL. TERRACE RD. BOURNEMOUTH. DORSET. 1995

As seen from Terrace Mount. The former Torbay Hotel in another of it's many guises, this time partly given over to the Victory Sports Club.

Marked on the 1870 OS map as Edmondsham Lodge, by the late 1800s it had morphed into Torbay Lodge, a boarding house. It then became the Torbay Hotel for many years but in latter years it has been a series of nightclubs, including K Bar, 2020 and Be Bar. In 2011 it is being converted into flats with commercial units at street level.
Judging by various photos of the building it looks likely that the original Edmondsham Lodge was retained within the fabric of the enlarged structure.

The building on the left is the Edmondsham House flats on the corner of Orchard Street, which is Bournemouth's only 'street'. The Orchard Street area was the town's first working class district where those involved in constructing the buildings in the 1840s and 50s lived to save them having to travel from further afield each day. As the town expanded in the 1860s and 70s further working class, or artisan areas, developed in Springbourne and Winton.

Edmondsham House above, is built on the site of the much earlier Edmondsham Cottage.
I think i'm right in saying that in the 1880s a villa called Edmondsham House was built on the opposite side of Terrace Rd which later became the Bristol Hotel. It stood behind Terrace Cottage / Merville Hotel, on what is now the junction of Terrace Rd and Upper Terrace Rd. It has since been demolished..

ity" atmosphere. One of Montana's finest. Open

Mr. & Mrs Frank Cipech

Oddly enough, I found an obit for Mary Cipech, Frank's wife. It reads:

Mary Cipech, 95, of Billings, who with her husband built the King’s Rest Motel in the Heights, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, at Billings Clinic Hospital.
The daughter of Joe and Aloiziae (Lucy) Gasparovich, she was born Aug. 10, 1912, in Salida, Colo. After her father died when she was 6, her mother married Mike Bakaric and the family moved to McGill, Nev.

After she had attended school for five years, her stepfather was injured in a smelter accident and returned to Yugoslavia. When the family ran out of money, he brought Mary and two of her sisters back to the United States while her mother stayed in Yugoslavia with the seven other children for another two years. Mary learned to read and write in English and Yugoslavian.

She had worked in a bakery, a laundry, a cannery and selling candy and cigars in a bar and casino. She married Frank Cipech on May 30, 1930, in Gold Field, Neb. They lived in San Bernardino before settling in Montana.

The Cepiches built the King’s Rest Motel, now the Heights Inn, when there was no other development in the area.

Sounds like Mary had quite an interesting life. The Heights Inn is still there, though it looks nothing like the place when it was King's Rest.

Just a closeup of its main sign. It's now called the River Park Inn(IIRC), and it's been replaced with a plain plastic sign today.

I remember when the light green neon arrows used to slowly move right, till all of them were on, and I think the Tip and Top words on the sign came on at different times, till the whole sign came on all at once, like pictured here.

I have to say it was a bit of guess work. After 10 shots I narrowed the exposure down and got this. Turned out to be only 2 seconds - the camera isn't as smart as I thought. Cropped and curves adjusted in PS. Took the advice from the last attempt and got a remote release - much better.
